Friends, I'm living the dream.  I completed Lysa TerKeurst's Book Proposal Boot Camp and was offered a book contract by Thomas Nelson Publishing.  I'm writing a book on The Emotionally Healthy Mom.

Myself, a licensed therapist, wrestled with postpartum depression and anxiety after the birth of my first baby.  Nearly a decade ago, there weren't many resources to help me.  It was truly the hardest season of my life.  I'm writing the book I wished had existed while I was in some of the darkest moments of my life.

What do you do when the tears on your baby are yours?

What happens when you have postpartum depression and it has you?

When we come home for the first time cradling our new babies, no one hands us an instruction manual for what’s about to happen.  This new life doesn’t look anything like the filtered new moms on Instagram.  Sure, there’s “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.”  No one tells us what to expect after we’ve already expected.   How are we supposed to handle all of these new emotions?  Alone on a deserted island, many new moms end up hopeless, depressed, and lost.  They wonder what is wrong with them.  The very fact that they are struggling shrouds new moms with shame.  Some may struggle to care for their new baby.  They may even contemplate self-harm.  The enemy attacks mothers in a vicious attempt to render them useless to raise up disciples of Jesus.  For many, it is the absolute darkest moment of their lives.  It was for this author.

No more.  We will say “no thank you” to the world’s arbitrary rules of being the perfect parent.  This is the book that will speak the truth: We aren’t born great mothers; we become great mothers.  This book will teach women how to become an emotionally healthy mom.  I will show moms how to take care of their baby, and how to also take care of themselves.   The pride and shame associated with these struggles will be addressed in the hearts of my readers.  This book will demonstrate how to process and manage all of these new emotions that my readers are facing.  God’s scorecard of Godly motherhood will become the goal; the benchmark to which we fight to attain.  Together, we will learn to endure and embrace, beautiful, messy, motherhood.

God’s will is for us to be good mothers.  So, that’s exactly what we’re going to do.  Moms, He has you; and you got this, even if you don’t know it yet.
